Overview:
Lima, Past and Present
Lima is a city of contrasts, where pre-Inca pyramids sit next to modern skyscrapers and colonial balconies overlook bustling streets. This Private Lima City Tour cuts through the chaos of the metropolis to show you its soul. Designed for travelers who want to see the essential highlights without getting stuck in a large group, this tour offers the autonomy to explore the Historic Center (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the modern coast at your own pace.
Your journey begins with a private pickup from your hotel in Miraflores or San Isidro. We take you straight to the heart of the city to explore the mysterious Catacombs of San Francisco, admire the grand Plaza Mayor, and taste a local favorite: the famous Limeño Churro.
But Lima isn't just history; it's a coastal beauty. We bridge the gap between eras with a panoramic view of the Huaca Pucllana pyramid before ending your day with the sea breeze on the Miraflores Boardwalk. With a private driver and guide, you navigate the city safely, comfortably, and efficiently.

Detailed Itinerary
From Colonial Gems to Ocean Views
Step 1: Private Hotel Pickup
Your private driver and guide collect you from your hotel (Miraflores, San Isidro, or Center). We drive towards the Historic Center, with your guide providing context on Lima's transformation from indigenous valley to Spanish capital.
Step 2: The Heart of the Colony (Plaza San Martín)
We start walking at Plaza San Martín, a monument to Peru's independence surrounded by elegant white neoclassical buildings. It's the perfect introduction to the Republican era.
Step 3: The Plaza Mayor (Main Square)
Walk the same stones as the conquistadors. Stand in the center of the Plaza Mayor, flanked by the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, and the City Hall. Your guide will explain the political and religious power struggles that shaped this space.
Step 4: The Underground City (San Francisco Catacombs)
Enter the San Francisco Convent, famous for its library and its eerie, fascinating catacombs. Walk through the underground crypts where thousands of colonial residents were buried—a visceral connection to the city's past.
Step 5: A Sweet Pause
No visit to Lima Center is complete without a taste. We stop at a traditional café to enjoy a Churro Criollo (included), a local delicacy filled with manjar blanco (dulce de leche).
Step 6: Ancient & Modern Lima
On our drive back to the modern districts, we pass the Huaca Pucllana (panoramic view), a massive adobe pyramid built around 500 AD, sitting incongruously in the middle of Miraflores.
Step 7: Pacific Views (Parque del Amor)
We finish at the Miraflores Boardwalk (Malecón). Visit the Parque del Amor (Love Park) with its mosaic walls and famous "The Kiss" statue, enjoying spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean cliffs.
Step 8: Return to Hotel
We drop you off at your hotel, oriented and ready to enjoy the rest of your stay in Lima.

What to bring
Recommendations
- Traffic Reality: Lima traffic is heavy. A private driver is essential to navigate efficiently. We recommend morning tours (starting 9:00 AM) or early afternoon (2:00 PM) to avoid peak rush hours.
- Safety First: While the center is policed, keep your phone and valuables secure. Your guide is there to ensure you stay in safe areas.
- Foodie City: Ask your guide for restaurant recommendations. Lima is the gastronomic capital of Latin America, and you are likely near a world-class restaurant in Miraflores.
- Weather: Lima is often overcast ("panza de burro" or donkey belly gray) but rarely rains. It’s humid, so dress lightly but bring a layer for the ocean breeze.

Frequently asked questions
Clearing Your Doubts
Q: Can we enter the Cathedral?
A: The standard tour includes an exterior view and explanation of the Cathedral to keep the tour within 4 hours. However, if you wish to enter, we can easily add it to the itinerary (tickets purchased on-site), though it might extend the tour slightly.
Q: Is there a lot of walking?
A: The tour is rated "Low" difficulty. We walk around the main plazas and inside the convent, but the private vehicle transports us between the major districts (Center to Miraflores), saving your legs.
Q: Can you drop us off at a restaurant instead of the hotel?
A: Absolutely. Many guests choose to end their tour at a restaurant like Astrid & Gaston or Maido (if booked) or Larcomar shopping center. Just let your guide know.
Q: Are the catacombs scary for kids?
A: Most children find them fascinating rather than scary (it's mostly bones arranged in patterns), but it is an underground crypt. If you prefer to skip it, we can spend more time exploring the plazas or visiting the Casa de la Literatura.
